Repairs and repaving work on Covil Avenue in Wilmington will require the road to be closed to through traffic over the next three weeks.

Covil, which connects Independence Boulevard at Randall Parkway with Market Street, is expected to be closed to through traffic starting Monday, according to a notice from the City of Wilmington.

Crews have been working on repairing and repaving both Covil and the nearby Darlington Avenue. Work began on Darlington earlier this month and was scheduled to shift to Covil on Nov. 25. Intermittent lane closures have been used on the roads, but full closures of Covil are expected starting Monday.

The project is scheduled to last through Dec. 19. Motorists should use Randall Parkway and Kerr Avenue as an alternate route between Independence and Market (See map below).

The project is part of the city’s $41 million Five Year Improvement Plan for infrastructure projects. Information on the plan and a schedule of projects can be found on the city’s website.
