WFD: Body recovered from Cape Fear River

The body of an adult male was recovered Sunday morning from the Cape Fear River near the U.S. Coast Guard dock.

The Wilmington Fire Department received a report of a body being sighted in the river and responded at 10:24 a.m. Responders confirmed and recovered the body, according to a notice from a department spokesman.

The man was not identified in that report, which referred questions to the Wilmington Police Department. A message left for spokeswoman Linda Rawley Sunday morning was not immediately returned. Communications staff at the department said a release with more information would be issued later today.

Police were searching late last week for a man who had jumped into the river and disappeared. Items recovered at the scene belonged to 42-year-old Scott Turley, who was believed to be the man who jumped in the river, according to the department.
