
The bond for a Leland man charged with more than 50 sex offense and assault charges has been raised to more than $7 million.
Denzel Jamal Hill, 22, of Dogwood Lane NE in Leland, was arrested Saturday and placed under a $1 million bond, according to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Emily Flax. Since his arrest, detectives charged Hill with additional sex offenses on two victims.
District Judge Scott Ussery raised Hill’s bond to $7,010,000 on Thursday, Flax said.
Hill has been charged with 34 counts of statutory rape where the defendant is at least six years older than the victim; 17 counts of taking indecent liberties with a child; three counts of first-degree sexual offense; two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury; four counts of assault by strangulation; three counts of second-degree kidnapping; 10 counts of assault inflicting serious bodily injury; and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
According to warrants, the offenses allegedly occurred between April 2011 and July 2014. Detectives have learned there may be others who have a connection with this case or have information that could aid in the investigation, Flax said.
“[The] Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit is requesting the help of the public to identify and locate other potential victims and/or witnesses involving Denzel Jamal Hill, ” Flax said. “All information provided will be kept confidential as part of this ongoing criminal investigation.”
