A recent poll conducted by The Wickers Group shows David Rouzer slightly ahead of Woody White in the race for North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District.
The poll, which surveyed 302 likely voters, found Rouzer three percentage points ahead of White with 29 percent. White, whose campaign announced the survey’s results, received 26 percent, according to a release.
The survey was conducted April 13 and 14 and has a margin of error of 4.75 percent, according to the release, which does not mention fellow GOP candidate Chris Andrade, who rounds out a three-way race in the May Republican primary.
Despite the district-wide numbers, White’s campaign notes the poll found White with the lead in the Wilmington-area counties of New Hanover and Brunswick. Forty percent of respondents there chose White, while 25 percent selected Rouzer.
White, a Wilmington attorney, serves as chairman of the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners.
Earlier this year, White and Rouzer released competing poll results that claimed early leads by varying margins. Rouzer, citing a Public Opinion Strategies poll conducted over two days in January, claimed a lead of 36 points over White, who in turn cited a Wickers Group poll conducted earlier that month that showed Rouzer leading White by a margin of four points.
The winner of the primary, set for May 6, will face either Jonathan Barfield, a fellow New Hanover commissioner, or Walter Martin, who will likewise face off in a Democratic primary.
