Untreated wastewater discharged near Ocean Isle

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — The failure of a sewer main has resulted in untreated wastewater discharging into a tributary of the Shallotte River.

Approximately 2,000 gallons reached the Saw Pit Swamp when a 3-inch sewer force main failed near 611 Dartmoor Way in Ocean Ridge Plantation. The area is unincorporated and located near Ocean Isle Beach.

The leak began around 2 p.m. on July 4, according to a press release from Brunswick County Public Utilities.

Repairs were made within two hours and completed by 4 p.m.
