Two injured when driver crashes into apartment, flees scene

WILMINGTON — An early Saturday-morning vehicle crash has left two critically injured and Wilmington Police Department on the hunt for the driver of a hit-and-run.

WPD were dispatched at 2:54 a.m. to Hawthorne Commons Apartment complex to assess the scene. A driver had crashed a vehicle into an apartment occupied by a couple and fled the scene before police arrived.

According to the police, the couple were transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, due to critical injuries. The WPD traffic unit is investigating it as a hit and run.
