The Agenda: Meetings in area government this week

Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet Monday at 3 p.m. (Port City Daily/File)

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, Oct. 5

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in the Skyline Center, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here. 

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet a 9 a.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda can be viewed here. 

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will host a regular meeting at 3 p.m. Meetings can be watched here and the agenda includes:

  • Presentation on the county revaluations
  • Presentation on the Brunswick County Agricultural Fair and Expo
  • Approval of site improvements for the Mid-Atlantic Industrial Rail Park
  • Amendment requests regarding HB 1222
  • Approval of internal Audit Committee Charter to select county’s internal auditor
  • Approval of sheriff’s office reclassifications and budget transfers
  • $30M max contract price amendment with Crowder Construction Company, for Phase 2 of the West Brunswick Regional Biosolids Processing and Storage Facility construction
  • Appointment to Planning Board District 2 seat

The Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. at the Pender County Government Building, 805 South Walker Street. The meeting can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Appointment to the vacant District 1 board of commissioners seat
  • Resolution for commissioners to support preserving USPS in Maple Hill
  • Approval of a grant application for the West Pender Water Project
  • Approval to increase full design of the county fleet garage to $1.3 million
  • Approval of $1.1M Purchase Order and contract for A.C.Schultes of Carolina Inc. Well Filtration Project
  • Public hearing to rezone approximately 32 acres for the purpose of building a wastewater treatment facility in the Topsail Township
  • Public hearing to revise a Special Use Permit for the operation of a Sewer Treatment Facility in the Topsail Township

The Brunswick County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Cape Fear Room of The Center of Applied Sciences and Technology, 1109 Old Ocean Highway. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda can be viewed here. 

The Belville Planning Board will host a meeting at 6 p.m. at the Brunswick Community College Leland Center. The agenda includes:

  • Review and approve the RFP for the UDO, Comprehensive Land Use Plan, and Downtown Master Plan
  • Projects update and Riverwalk Park update

Tuesday, Oct. 6

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Skyline Center, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Ordinance making supplemental appropriation in the amount of $193,825 from committed revenue funds for Live Oak Bank Pavilion at Riverfront Park and the Hugh Morton Amphitheater at Greenfield Park for maintenance and improvements at these facilities
  • Resolution to adopt detailed staff comments on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge 

The New Hanover County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 2025-2026 New Hanover County Schools Accountability Report
  • Character education
  • Mold remediation

The Pender County Planning Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Pender County Government Building, 805 South Walker Street. The meeting can be live-streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Revision to add 3 single-family lots and additional commercial uses to the already approved Master Development Plan on 204 acres in Topsail Township

The Topsail Beach Parks and Recreation Board will meet at 2 p.m. at Town Hall at 820 South Anderson Boulevard. The meeting can be live-streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Update on town projects from the public works director 

The Pender County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 US Highway 117 S. The meeting can be live-streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Transportation update with a summary of summer maintenance along with updates for the beginning of the 2026/27 school year
  • Exceptional Children program update 
  • Approved purchase of the Pender High School Building automation system replacement for $629,797 
  • Approved purchase of the West Pender Middle School Building automation system replacement for $439,160 

The Surf City Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. at the Surf City Town Hall, 214 Florence Way. The meeting can be live-streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Approval of  $10,000 from BOA fund 72 for repair work on the digester
  • Approval of  $10,000 from the BOA fund 84 for repair work on the digester
  • Complete trail grant, ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, for a multi-use path

The Leland Board of Adjustment will host a meeting at 6 p.m. at Town Hall. Meetings can be found here and here. The agenda includes:

  • Adoption of the schedule 
  • Variance request from Justin Humphries, of Humphries Law Firm on behalf of the Willows Homeowners Association asking for relief from the requirement that gated communities incorporate bicycle lanes and sidewalks on both sides of the street or alternative pedestrian and bicycle friendly design treatments along private streets, and public access for pedestrians and cyclists be provided at gate locations.

New Hanover County Board of Elections will hold its special meeting at 5 p.m. in the board room at 226 Government Center Dr. The purpose of the meeting is to review absentee ballots and discuss election-related matters. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Members may listen to or participate in the meeting by dialing 1-336-218-2051, Conference ID, enter 972 013 321 followed by the pound sign or stream online here.

Pender County Board of Elections meets at 6 p.m. in the Elections Building, 305 South Walker Street in Burgaw. The public is welcome to attend; an agenda was not posted by press.

Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet at 4 p.m. in Commissioners’ Chambers, 30 Government Center Dr NE. The meeting will be streamed via Zoom.

Wednesday, Oct. 7

The North Topsail Board of Aldermen will meet at 11 a.m. at Town Hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. The meeting can be live-streamed here. An agenda was not posted by press. 

The Wilmington Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. in the Skyline Center, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Amend City Code Chapter 18 to restore group day facility as a permitted use in various zoning districts and reestablish prescribed conditions and the definition. Read Port City Daily’s coverage here.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will hold two meetings: the Finance Committee at 10:30 a.m. in the Jordan Conference, 235 Government Center Dr.; an agenda wasn’t posted by price. The Executive Committee will meet at 10:30 a.m.; the agenda is here. 

Thursday, Oct. 8

The Carolina Beach Planning and Zoning Board will host a meeting at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. Meetings can be found here and the agenda includes:

  • Conditional zoning request for a 16-unit mixed-use building at 308 Carolina Beach Ave.
  • Conditional zoning modification request for an outdoor space extension for 205 Charlotte Ave. in the CBD, with the application made by Common Ground Holdings
  • Text amendment to allow for additional accessory structures made by staff

The Southport Board of Aldermen will host a meeting at 6 p.m. in the Southport Community Building. Meetings can be found here and the agenda includes:

  • Public hearing on the Southport Crossing PUD modification; read PCD coverage here.

The Surf City Planning Board will meet at 4 p.m. at the Surf City Town Hall, 214 Florence Way. The meeting can be live-streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Amendment to zoning ordinance standards for stormwater management meant to incorporate state requirements into the town’s local stormwater standards 
  • Exemption to the Home Occupation standards under G.S. 160A-205.8

The Navassa Planning Board will host a meeting at 6 p.m. at 338 Main St. An agenda was not posted by press.
