The Agenda: Meetings in local government this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, Sept. 29

Southport Board of Alderman and the Historic Preservation Commission is hosting a workshop at 9 a.m. on 223 E. Bay St. The group will discuss the Southport Local Historic District and Design Standards, according to the agenda. Meetings can be streamed here.

Tuesday, Sept. 30

The Town of Kure Beach will hold a General Election candidate forum at 6 p.m. in the Kure Beach Community Center. The format for the forum will be a Q&A with questions submitted in advance. The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce will be moderating the forum. Candidates include current mayor Allen Oliver and council candidates Byron Ashbridge, Tracy Mitchell, and Mark Dirks. The meeting will be uploaded here.

The Pender County Schools Committee of the Whole will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 U.S. Highway 117. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • First readings of policies offering guidance and rules on the use of AI 
  • Bus driver incentive proposal

Wednesday, Oct. 1

The Southport Historic Preservation Commission is hosting a meeting at 4 p.m. at Indian Trail Meeting Hall, 113 W. Moore St. An agenda was not published by press.

The North Topsail Beach Board of Alderman will meet at 11 a.m. in the North Topsail Town Hall. The agenda includes a crosswalk inspection report and an update on county issues from Onslow County Commission Chairman Tim Foster. 

The New Hanover County Airport Authority will meet at 5 p.m. in ILM’s Executive Conference Room on the 2nd floor of the Terminal building. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Wilmington Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. in city hall, 929 N. Front St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Amend City Code Chapter 18 to revise the dimensional standards for duplex lots in the R-3 residential district
  • Amend City Code Chapter 18 to add a food bank as a permitted uses in various zoning districts, establish prescribed conditions, and create a definition

Thursday, Oct. 2

The Pender County Technical Review Committee will meet at 9 a.m. in the Pender County Public Assembly Room. The agenda includes review of an Application for the development of a two-story office building for a real-estate office and medical office located on the north side of U.S. Highway 17, and 143 single-family detached dwellings as part of the Blake Farm Development.

The New Hanover County Board of Education will meet at 12 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Finance, Bond & Capital Committee – Ad-Hoc Committee discussion
  • NHHS master plan selection
  • Policy 2310 – Public Participation at Board Meetings

The New Hanover County Commissioners will have an agenda review at 2 p.m. in the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press.
