The Agenda: Sewer plant expansion in Brunswick, sidewalk cafes in CB

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, September 25

The Town of Burgaw will host a public meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 108 E. Wilmington St. to gather feedback on the parks and recreation master plan.

The UNCW Board of Trustees will meet at 11 a.m. in UNCW’s Aldermen Hall, Room 215, 601 S. College Road. The only item on the agenda is a closed session. 

The New Hanover County Schools Curriculum Committee will meet at 3:45 p.m. at the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Quality review checklist
  • Policy 3200

Brunswick County Health and Human Services Advisory Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Health Services Board Room, 25 Courthouse Dr. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Southport Board of Aldermen will hold an emergency meeting at 3:30 p.m. in the Indian Trail Meeting Hall at 113 W. Moore St to consider and approve the amendment to the interlocal agreement with Brunswick County for the sewer plant expansion. 

Tuesday, September 26

The Wilmington Housing Authority Community Outreach and Resident Services Committee will meet at 3 p.m. at Rankin Terrace, 415 N. 12th St.

The New Hanover County-City of Wilmington Community Relations Advisory Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. Elections for chair, vice-chair and secretary will take place. The hour prior, a subcommittee meeting will be held to review recent special events and discuss upcoming events.

The New Hanover County Board of Adjustment will meet at 5 p.m. at NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. An agenda was not posted by press.

The New Hanover County Board of Education will have an agenda review at 2 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings can be livestreamed here. The agenda can be viewed here.

The Carolina Beach Town Council will hold a workshop at 9 a.m. in council chambers at 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. Meetings can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Resolution authorizing the town to apply to the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization for Surface Transportation Block Grant Program
  • Discussion on sidewalk cafés

The Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO Board of Commissioners will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m., 516 Village Road. They will discuss, with possible action taken: 

  • Proposal for engineering/architectural services for H2GO’s administrative and operational facilities
  • Deed of Dedication: Hawthorne at Waterside Cottages
  • Personnel policy 

Town of Leland Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. at town hall. The board will hear staff reports updates and consider a text amendment that will change language in the phase II stormwater ordinance applicability and street lighting general policies. The agenda is here and the meeting is open to the public.

The Oak Island Planning Board will meet at 9 a.m. in council chambers at 4601 E. Oak Island Drive. Meetings can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Discussion of feedback from the town forester on proposed amendments to chapter 32 of the code of ordinances
  • Proposed text amendment to the Unified Development Ordinance – Section 10.24 Signs Not Requiring a Permit – Temporary Signs at Middleton and Veterans Park

Wednesday, September 27

The Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Board will meet at 3 p.m. at 320 Chestnut St. in Wilmington. The meeting can be livestreamed via Zoom. A few items on the agenda include:

  • A presentation on federal funds and August redistribution from NCDOT
  • Discussion about 2020-2029 STIP/MPO modifications
  • Resolution approving amendments to the Go Coast bylaws

The New Hanover Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors will meet at 8:15 a.m. in the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. Contact Soil & Water Conservation Director Dru Harrison at drharrison@nhcgov.com with questions or to receive a copy of the draft agenda.

Thursday, September 28

The Wilmington Housing Authority Finance and Development Committee will meet at 8:30 a.m. at WHA main office, 1524 S. 16th St.

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will hold an agenda review at 4 p.m. at 230 Government Center Drive.

The Cape Fear Community College Board of Trustees will meet at 5 p.m. at Union Station, 502 N Front St. An agenda was not posted by press; the meeting can be livestreamed here.
