American Airlines announced Thursday it’s launching a direct flight from ILM to Miami International Airport.

“With more nonstop destinations than any other airline from ILM, American is delighted to offer local residents the most convenient access to all that Miami has to offer and one-stop access to the largest network of destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean,” American Airlines director of short-haul network planning Philippe Peuch said in a release.

The nonstop flight on a dual-class Embraer E175 aircraft will operate on Saturdays, starting Nov. 11. Flights will depart ILM at 6:20 a.m. and arrive in Miami at 7:50 a.m. On the return, flights depart Miami at 7:30 p.m. and arrive at ILM at 9 p.m.

With the addition of Miami, American now serves ILM with eight nonstop flights, including Philadelphia, New York-LaGuardia, Boston, Washington DC, Chicago,
Charlotte, and Dallas Fort Worth.

“We’re excited that American Airlines, ILM’s largest carrier, is adding a new nonstop to a top unserved city,” ILM Airport Director Jeff Bourk said in the release. “It’s tremendous to see the growth in seat capacity and addition of flights at ILM.”

Avelo Airlines offers nonstop flights to other Florida destinations, such as Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, West Palm Beach, and Tampa.

Last year, ILM added nine new direct routes to its itinerary.

Flights go on sale Sunday for American Airlines’ Miami flight here.
