PENDER COUNTY — While some construction projects are still ongoing, phase one of building Central Pender Park has been completed and with a playground, athletic fields, walking path now available to the public.
The park is located at 3378 U.S. Highway 117, and officially opened Monday, Aug. 3.
Amenities include four lighted multi-pourpose athletic fields, a playground, picnic shelter, multiuse walking path and open green space.
While the park is open to visitors construction is continuing as crews work to install a concession stand and bathroom. Portable toilets are available to the public in the meantime.
“The opening of Central Pender Park represents a milestone that has been a long time coming for our community,” Pender County Parks and Recreation Director Zach White said. “This project has been years in the making, and we’re excited to finally welcome residents and visitors to enjoy these new recreational opportunities.”
A formal grand opening with a ribbon cutting is planned for the fall, with more information set to be released as the date grows nearer.
The project was paid for in part from the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund.
