BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Leland’s newly constructed amphitheater in Founder’s Park, 113 Town Hall Drive, will be christened with beach music sounds, as the town is hosting an official grand opening of the park on July 31.
To debut, it’s partnering with WECT’s Sounds of Summer, with musicians The Embers featuring Craig Woolard performing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Sounds of Summer has been a biweekly concert series held at Wrightsville Beach Town Park for 26 years; however, assistant news director, Kayloni Pachilis, said WECT hadn’t planned to host it this year until Leland reached out.
“We’re only doing the one concert this summer,” she said of the July 31 event.

Founder’s Park has undergone $7.8-million in renovations recently, including a new playground, fitness stations, a veteran’s memorial, walking trails, and splash pad and amphitheater. It’s official debut will be marked by a ribbon-cutting from Mayor Brenda Bozeman at 5:30 p.m.
“Founders Park was designed to be a place where our community can come together to make memories, celebrate special moments, and enjoy everything that makes Leland unique,” Bozeman said in a release. “We are excited to officially open this space, and we invite residents and visitors to come to this event and experience all it has to offer.”
The kickoff also will include family-friendly activities, including games behind the amphitheater, numerous community organizations on site, plus the the splash pad and playground will be open.
Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket or lawn chair, plus food trucks will be on site, including Glizzies on the Go, Hanna’s Hawaiian Ice, Taste N Seize, Seaview Crab Company, and Old South Pretzel Company will be on hand. The park’s first beer garden featuring Leland Brewing and Brunswick Beer and Cider will be available for patrons 21 and older; outside alcohol is prohibited.
There will be limited parking available at Founders Park, but overflow parking is offered at First Baptist Church, 517 Village Road, with multi-use paths allowing direct access to the park.
