Brunswick County woman wins Cash 5 lottery

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A Leland resident purchased a one-dollar Cash 5 lottery ticket last week, which paid out 70,000 times more than her investment.

Shelby Canady bought a $1 Quick Pick ticket for the North Carolina Education Lottery’s Cash 5 from Smoker Friendly on Reed Road in Leland. All five numbers matched to secure the $100,000 jackpot.

Colby had a 1 in 962,598 chance of winning and after withholdings secured almost $72,000.

Tuesday’s jackpot is $154,000 and tickets can be purchased at Shelby Canady of Leland took a chance on a $1 Cash 5 ticket on Thursday and won a $100,000 jackpot. 

Canady bought her lucky Quick Pick ticket from Smoker Friendly on Reed Road in Leland. Her ticket matched all five numbers to win the jackpot. The odds of matching numbers on all five balls are 1 in 962,598. 

She claimed her winnings on Tuesday and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,750. 

Tuesday’s jackpot is $154,000. Cash 5 tickets are available at retail locations or online here.
