KURE BEACH — Visitors to the North Carolina Aquariums can pay half price on Jan. 15.

The aquariums will honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by offering a 50% discount on tickets for the one day. King’s work for equality extended to the natural environment and attendees can learn more about conservation efforts around the world while visiting the aquarium at Fort Fisher, as well as its sister locations in Roanoke and Pine Knoll Shores.

“Reflecting on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and his fight for racial equality is an important way to keep his dream alive,” North Carolina Aquariums acting director Michael P. Remige said in a press release. “Dr. King’s work to raise awareness extended to inspiring action on preserving a clean and healthy environment for generations to come. We are honored to welcome guests at a discounted rate on the birthday of this civil rights hero.”

Visitors must still purchase tickets in advance online and reservations fill up quickly.

The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is located at 900 Loggerhead Road in Kure Beach.
