LELAND — Inspired by the HGTV show “Fixer Upper,” this Leland-area home is practical and functional, but not without its ‘outside the box’ touches.
Leland, North Carolina is 1200 miles from Waco, Texas, but when you see the home of Audrey and Scott Salzman you can’t help but notice the impact that Waco based Chip and Joanna “JoJo” Gaines, the interior designer and builder behind the HGTV hit show Fixer Upper, have had on the industry. Audrey Salzam goes as far as calling her home a “Jojo House” — the term of endearment Chip Gaines has for his wife’s work.
“We have incorporated many decorating ideas from the show Fixer Upper. Our home feels very cozy and comfortable. It is also very practical and functional. We love the open concept. It is everything we dreamed it would be. It is very unique to match our needs”, Audrey Salzman said.
Scott and Audrey’s home is located in Compass Point. Josh Adams of Hagood Homes said this of Compass Point, “Compass Point is a one-of-a-kind community. While there are many master-planned communities in the Wilmington area, none compares to the resort atmosphere at Compass Pointe.”
Like Joanna and Chip Gaines, Hagood Homes is also a husband-wife team. Adams said, “Hagood Homes is owned by husband-wife Jim and Troy Kenny. Jim oversees the construction component of the company, while Troy oversees the design. Troy has been designing homes since she was four years old, it’s not only her passion but her gift.”
When asked how “Fixer Upper” has impacted Hagood’s designs, Adams said, “Barn doors galore! Almost all of our build feature at least one of Joanie’s token trademarks. We have also seen a use of mixed textures and metals. I think that Joanie (Gaines) has made folks feel more comfortable designing and building ‘outside the box.’”
Scott and Audrey Salzman, Chicago natives, are pleased with their new home and the community. Scott said, “Our home is very coastal in nature. The inside of the house has a flare of the farmhouse style that we love from the show and thanks to landscaping designed for us by Yard-Nique, we were able to pick out shrubs and plants native to North Carolina and we also made sure that we put our palm trees in key areas to give the home that coastal look and feel.”
Scott and Audrey, with the help of Hagood Homes, have exactly what they wanted and look forward to spending many years enjoying their dream home.
