Wilmington Hammerheads tie Charlotte Eagles

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Hammerheads faced off against the Charlotte Eagles Wednesday night attempting to bounce back from their Monday night loss to the Myrtle Beach Mutiny. The game ended in a draw with each team scoring one goal each.

The first half started slow with possession of the ball on both sides of the field. The visiting team had four shots on target, but Hammerheads’ keeper Andre Romig was able to fend them off.

The first goal of the night came late in the first half at the 44th minute with a 1-2 exchange between Dainel Escobar and Tanner Roberts. Escobar managed to race the Eagles’ keeper to the ball and chipped it in for the point; it was only the second recorded shot by the home team of the half.

The Hammerheads forced two saves in the first few minutes into the second half, but did not manage to complete another goal.

The Eagles evened the score in the 84th minute of the game after the Hammerheads turned the ball over after a poor touch. The Eagles Curren Page fired a shot from distance beating Romig at his near post.

In stoppage time, Romig had two saves from shots within the penalty area keeping the final score tied.

The Hammerheads will faceoff against the North Carolina FC U-23 team Sunday, 7 p.m., at the UNCW Soccer Stadium. For tickets and more information visit, www.wilmingtonhammerheadsyouth.com/pdl.
