Where do the Seahawks land in this year’s NCAA Tournament?

WILMINGTON – March Madness is almost here. Selection Sunday is on the horizon following the conclusion of the many conference tournaments going on across the country this week.

The UNCW Men’s Basketball Team will learn its partner in the Big Dance during The NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Sunday, which will air from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

The Seahawks, 29-5, won their seventh straight game and tied the conference record for titles after going back-to-back and winning the league’s first championship game held in Charleston following a 78-69 victory Monday.

UNCW secured the CAA’s automatic berth to the NCAA tournament and will make its ninth postseason appearance.

So, the big question will be who does UNCW face in the Round of 64 and where will they play?

According to ESPNs Joe Lunardi and his latest Bracketology report, the Seahawks should earn a 12-seed in the East Region and face No. 5 Notre Dame in the opening round. UNCW’s destination for March Madness: Amway Center, in Orlando, Florida.

While Lunardi has the Seahawks as a 12-seed, if UNCW were to garner an 11-seed, they could end up as far away as Sacramento, Calif., or Salt Lake City, Utah. Greenville, S.C. has also been tossed around as a potential landing spot for the Seahawks.

Jerry Palm of CBSSports.com has the Seahawks at an 11-seed, while Dave Ommen at NBCSports.com puts UNCW in Orlando as a 12-seed.

The Seahawks gave Duke a run for its money during last year’s Round of 64 game in Providence, Rhode Island, ultimately falling to the Blue Devils, 93-85.

Trask Coliseum will host a special celebration on campus beginning at 4:15 p.m. on Selection Sunday, with performances by UNCW’s spirit groups, along with an autograph session and an opportunity to see the 2017 CAA Championship Trophy.
