Chris Bennett had 23 points and seven rebounds to lead Laney in a 61-57 comeback win over Purnell Swett. Davis Crenshaw and Marc McLaurin both finished with nine points, while Sherod Sidbury chipped in with eight.

Brandon Gonzales was one of three players to finish in double figures for South Brunswick with 15 points on Friday night as the Cougars ousted Cape Fear Academy, 66-58. With the scored tied 37-all moving into the fourth quarter, South Brunswick put up 29 points during the final eight minutes of regulation to grab the win.

The Scorpions continued their impressive start to the season with a 54-38 victory over West Brunswick. Jada Bellamy poured in a game-high 22 points and Taylor Perkins added 18 to give North Brunswick its best start under Coach Travis Fortune in his 16 years as head of the program.

Dominique Bryan led all scorers with 20 points as Topsail jumped out to an 18-point lead in the opening period en route to a 54-30 result against Pender.
