PINEHURST— Moving into the final day of the fall golf season, Laney High School standout Caroline Cahill found herself in the top-5 and three shots back from first-place on the leader board.

After firing a two-over-par, 74, the day prior, Cahill posted an identical score on Tuesday during the final round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4A Championship at Pinehurst No. 5. Her plus-four (148) total for the tournament was good for a third-place finish among the 78 golfers in the field.

Cahill ended six shots back of individual champion, Jenny Chang, of Athens Drive High School.

Chang fought off a valiant effort by Charlotte Catholic’s Keri Kenkel to dethrone the reigning 4A women’s golf champion. The day one leader by a single shot, Chang, carded a pair of identical one-under par 71’s on her way to a two-under, 142 tournament finish and one shot victory.

Jayla Rogers also represented the Wilmington area and Laney High School at this year’s championship. Rogers hit 79 on Monday and finished with 84 during the final round to secure a spot in the top-20.

Anna Moore (Hoggard) shaved six strokes over her day one total for an 83 on Tuesday. She finished in a tie for 35th place.
