The Centurions knocked off Hoggard for the second straight season following an impressive 5-0 shutout in the annual crosstown non-conference friendly at Scott Braswell Stadium on Shipyard Boulevard.
Coastal Christian improved to 16-2-1 overall and finished 2-1-1 against four Mideastern Conference teams this season, including Wednesday’s win against the Vikings and a 1-1 draw with Ashley.
Douglas McKinney continued his goal scoring tear from the penalty spot just two minutes into the match to put the visitors from Monkey Junction ahead and Matt Ward extended the advantage at the midway point of the first half on a beautifully placed ball off a 25-yard free kick. Ward put the finishing touches on a well-played 40 minutes when he found Walker Henderson on a header for the 3-0 lead.
McKinney and Ward added to the scoring sheet within six minutes of each other at the break to finish off the result. Hunter Mintz kept the clean sheet with eight saves.
Hoggard has now dropped three straight, falling to 7-5 on the year. Despite the loss, the Vikings remain one game back from the division lead and look to right the ship with against South Brunswick on Monday Oct. 10. Hoggard heads into a three match week against the Cougars, Topsail (Oct. 11) and a key game with Laney on Friday, Oct. 13.

Hoggard rallied after dropping the opening set to pull out a 3-1 victory over Wilmington Christian Academy and avenge an early season setback to the Patriots.
In a game originally scheduled for Thursday, but moved so Wilmington Christian could get their conference match in before anticipated impacts from Hurricane Matthew, the Vikings started slow, but got the offense rolling in the second game.
Kirby Smith led the Hoggard attack with 16 Kills in 33 attempts. Kaeley Pollock added eight kills, including six in the first game, while Hannah Dunlop had two solo blocks, six double blocks and three kills. Senior libero Madie Schider led the defense with 29 Digs, 22 Receptions and nine Assists. Camille Whitlock dished out 20 Assists
