Thursday Night Football: West Brunswick riding four-game winning streak

West Brunswick (2-0, 6-1) at South Brunswick (0-2, 1-6)

West Brunswick has one more week to get the little things ironed out before heading through the final third of its schedule, which will likely decide whether or not it remains atop the conference standings.

The Trojans face off against a struggling South Brunswick squad on Thursday. West Brunswick has rushed for nearly 300 yards per game and has won four consecutive games moving into their match up with the Cougars.

Bubba McCray eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark last week and rushed for over 150 yards in a 25-0 win over Topsail. Maliek King and Tariq Thomas provide the Trojans with a different look in the backfield, while Thomas plays a big part in the West Brunswick secondary alongside defensive back Toney Williams.

The Trojans present matchup problems on both fronts and will control the line of scrimmage against South Brunswick.

While there’s no question West Brunswick’s success largely comes for its run game, the Trojans offense will need to work on different looks and staying more balanced this week and moving forward with games against New Hanover (Oct. 14), Hoggard (Oct. 21) and Laney (Oct. 28) set to likely decide this year’s conference champion.
