MONTREAL – It’s been a tough month and a half for Wilmington Hammerheads FC following rumors of the organization’s United Soccer League (USL) hiatus and departure from the Port City after the 2016 season. With its playoff hopes slipping away and facing a nine match win-less streak, Wilmington salvaged a near setback by notching a pair of late goals, but the Hammerheads Wednesday night conceded a stoppage time equalizer for the second straight contest to finish in a 2-2 draw with FC Montreal at Complexe Sportif Claude-Robillard.
Facing a 1-nil deficit moving into the second half after failing to take advantage of several opportunities through the early stages of the match, Wilmington finally broke through in the 73rd minute when Jeff Michaud slid a pass across the face of the goal and Austin Martz tapped it into the back of the net.

Kyle Parker headed in the go-ahead score for the visitors seven minutes later off a beautiful ball from veteran Liam Miller, but Anthony Jackson-Hamel’s 89th-minute strike helped Montreal earn a share of the points.
Alessando Riggi was named Man of the Match as the 22-year-old scored the first goal of the game, taking advantage of a misplayed pass by the Hammerheads in the 13th minute. Riggi created numerous scoring chances for FC Montreal throughout the 90 minutes of action, including a strike of the crossbar in the 68th minute.
At 6-11-9 overall, Wilmington stands at 27 points in the USL Eastern Conference Table. The current ranking has the Hammerheads five points out of the eighth and final postseason spot. Wilmington closes the season with three of their final four games on home turf, including what could be a pivotal clash with eighth-place Orlando on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
