RALEIGH – About two weeks ago Laney High School alum Coult Culler was wearing a boot on his left foot while introducing N.C. State football fans to another Wilmington area standout during the Wolfpack’s “From the 50” segment. On Wednesday, N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren announced Culler’s decision to no longer play football due to recurring injuries.

“Coult is a very loved member of this team,” said Doeren. “He’s played multiple positions so he’s worked with a lot of coaches and has learned a great deal during his time here. He will continue to be around the team and will be a big part of our program, he just won’t put on pads every day.”
The Wilmington native will continue to be a part of the Wolfpack football program, while he works on earning his degree in fisheries, wildlife and conservation biology.
Culler arrived at N.C. State as a middle linebacker and Mideastern Conference Player of the Year, redshirting the 2014 season at that position. He moved to the defensive line prior to the 2015 campaign, where he saw action in four contests. This spring, he moved to offensive guard.
