WILMINGTON – The idea of UNCW graduate assistant Josh Stott could come to fruition this fall as the Seahawk’s baseball program looks to hold a weekly hitting academy for area ballplayers during the offseason.
“We are trying to start in the middle or toward the end of August,” Stott said. “We are trying to offer an opportunity to help young athletes improve in all aspects of hitting. We are going to do four sessions in four weeks on Monday night.”
Stott and the program are waiting to announce an official start date, times and cost based on the feedback it gets from the local baseball community.
Participants will receive instruction and work on drills at the beginning of each session. Drills and instruction will progress as the sessions continue, with the last session including live batting practice on Brooks Field.
“This is a great opportunity to improve in all aspects of hitting in a small group environment,” Stott added.
Areas of instruction will include: hitting technique, swing analysis, offensive approaches and training on the mental aspect of hitting. This camp is designed for athletes who want to take their hitting to the next level.

The UNCW baseball team had a huge offensive year after advancing to the NCAA Regional in Columbia, South Carolina. As a team, the Seahawks finished in the top-10 in seven offensive categories last season, including batting average, home runs, runs, hits, slugging percentage and runs per game.
