The yearly Kure Beach Street Festival returns to the southern part of Pleasure Island this Saturday, April 30.

The free, family-friendly festivities run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the town’s Ocean Front Park and include live music and children’s entertainment. Food, drinks and locally handmade goods will be available for purchase. Wilmington company Freaker USA has also made beverage insulators designed specifically for the event, and they will be available for $10 apiece.

Kid-friendly events include face painting, balloon animals and shapes and arts and crafts, all of which will take place under the park’s pavilion. The No Sleeves Magic show will also be taking the main stage around 11:30 a.m.

Food vendors include T’Geaux Boys, Poor Piggy’s, A&M’s Red Food Truck, Firehouse Kettle Korn and Kona Ice. Artisan stalls will be selling homemade soap, candles, jewelry and different kinds of art.

During the festival, an open house will also be held at the Kure Beach Community Center, a short walk from the park. Between 1 and 3 p.m., visitors are invited to see the recent renovations and learn more about the town’s recreational classes. There will also be a free drawing for a local prize pack, which will take place at 3 p.m. (winners need not be present.)

This year’s event is sponsored by Bud & Joe’s Sandbar, Costco, Duke Energy, Engineering Services, The Home Depot Store #3609 Myrtle Grove, Islander Kwik Mart, Seven Seas Inn, Spirit Communications, Victory Beach Vacations, Waste Management and Wells Construction Corp. The Home Depot is supplying the materials for the children’s arts and crafts.

Coolers, alcoholic beverages and pets will not be allowed at the festival. Ocean Front Park and Pavilion is located at 105 Atlantic Ave. The community center is located at 118 N. Third Ave.
