Nick Feight continued to power the Seahawk lineup with two hits and three runs batted in, while Ryan Foster tossed a complete game as UNCW topped Towson 7-2 in a Colonial Athletic Association series opener at Brooks Field on Friday night.
UNCW improved to 25-9 with its 10th consecutive win overall and 11th at Brooks Field. In the CAA, the Seahawks raised their record to 6-2.
Foster (8-1) picked up the win and his second complete game of the season, both tops in the CAA, needing 96 pitches to go the distance. He allowed two runs on six hits, walked three and struck out one.
Feight homered in the sixth and later added a two-run double as part of a five-run seventh inning. The sophomore now has 13 home runs and a nation-leading 65 runs batted in. Steven Linkous singled to open the bottom of the first and extended his hitting streak to 16 games. He finished with two hits and two runs scored, while Kennard McDowell delivered his second home run of the season to ignite the five-run rally.
Towson used a two-out walk, stolen base and single to tie the game at one-all in the top of the sixth, but Feight restored UNCW’s lead with a solo homer in the bottom of the frame to make it 2-1.
The series continues on Saturday with a 2 p.m. start.
