The Score: Mideastern Conference baseball, softball results

Baseball

West Brunswick 12    South Brunswick 5

The winning streak is now at 18 games in a row for the West Brunswick baseball team as the Trojans cruised to a 12-5 victory over South Brunswick on Friday night.

Zack Johnson and Tyler Stanley each had 3 RBI’s, while Hunter Ashburn added three hits in the result.

West Brunswick led from the start and grabbed a 7-2 advantage after two full innings. The Trojans tacked on single runs in the third and fourth to put the game out of reach.

Caleb Clemmons and Kris Keller paced an 11 hit attack for South Brunswick with three hits apiece. Keller also finished with two runs batted in.

With the regular season sweep over its cross-county foes, West Brunswick moved to 8-0 in conference and 19-1 on the year.

 Hoggard 3    New Hanover 1

Hoggard earned a split in their regular season home at home series with New Hanover as the Vikings picked up a 3-1 result on Friday night.

With the game tied at one in the bottom of the sixth, Brett Harms delivered a two-run base hit up the middle to put the Vikings in front for good. Brad Pennington tossed two shutout innings in relief and struck out the side in the seventh.

Pennington drove in J.P. Graham to put Hoggard in front 1-0 in the third. Alex Sniffen tied the game in the sixth with an RBI single before Harm delivered for the Vikings in the bottom of the frame.

Hoggard improved to 6-3 in conference and 12-4 overall. New Hanover dropped to 5-4 in the division and 12-6 on the season.

Ashley 10    Laney 4

 

Softball

Laney 7   Ashley 5

Trailing by two in the bottom of the sixth, Laney rallied for five runs in the frame to grab their eighth straight win as the Bucs pulled out a 7-5 come-from-behind win against Ashley on Friday.

With the game tied at one, Ashley scored four in the top of the fifth to grab a 4-1 advantage before Kirstie Langley belted a solo home run in the bottom of the frame to cut the Laney deficit.

Langley, Tristen Horrell and Paige Cruse each had two hits for the Bucs, who improved to 8-2 in conference and 14-5 overall. Horrell and Cruse both smacked a double in the victory.

Ashley had a chance in their final at-bat with the bases loaded and nobody out, but Laney wiggled out of trouble to record the result.

Pearson Yopp paced the Screaming Eagles with two hits. Jessica Stergakos also went 2-for-4 for Ashley.

West Brunswick 6    South Brunswick 1

Katelyn Fulford went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead West Brunswick in a 6-1 victory against South Brunswick.

The Trojans pounded 10 hits for their second win in as many days, improving to 6-4 in league play and 12-7 overall. Emily Clemmons allowed one run on three hits in the circle.
