Nick Feight and Casey Golden both homered as UNCW shut down High Point 5-1 on Wednesday to grab their fifth straight road win after beginning the season 0-7 away from home.
The Seahawks pushed their record to 20-9, while the Panthers fell to 22-11 on the season. UNCW finished its eight-game road swing with a 5-3 record.
Gavin Stupienski collected three hits, while Golden, Steven Linkous and Daniel Stack added two hits apiece.
UNCW held a 1-0 lead entering the third inning when it exploded for four runs off High Point starter Cooper Jeffers. Linkous led off with a single and would come around to score two batters later on a single by Stupienski. Feight and Golden would follow with back-to-back homers to cap the scoring.
Justin Crump (2-1) earned the win, allowing just one hit and walking two over a career-long five innings. He also tied his career high with four strikeouts.
Jeffers (2-2) took the loss for HPU after being roughed up for five runs on six hits and a walk in four innings of work. Chris Clare had both of High Point’s hits on the night, including a RBI double in the ninth that ruined UNCW’s shutout bid.
Linkous also extended his career-long hitting streak to 11 straight games and has now reached basely in each of his last 16 games.
The Seahawks open a seven-game home stand on Friday with a 6 p.m. start against East Tennessee.
