The Score: Baseball, soccer games get in; rain alters spring schedule

Baseball

New Hanover 6     South Brunswick 3

Alex Sniffen and Caleb Bishop combined for four hits and five RBI’s as New Hanover rallied for five runs in the decisive fifth inning to hand South Brunswick a 6-3 defeat in a rain-shortened game on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats moved to 4-2 in the division and 11-4 overall. South Brunswick, meanwhile, dropped to 2-4 in conference and 10-4 on the year.

New Hanover opened the scoring in the top of the second, but the Cougars took a 2-1 lead after four full innings of play.

Adam Pecoraro allowed three runs on three hits and struck out five to record the win. Kyle Smith added a run batted in for the Wildcats, while Max Hildreth walked twice. Sniffen smacked two doubles in the effort.

Laney 7    Topsail 0

The Bucs notched five first half goals en route to a 7-nil result against Topsail in Hampstead.

Coming off a hard-fought win against the defending 4A State Champions (Panther Creek) this past weekend, Laney wasted no time to get on the board Tuesday night as the Bucs improved to 5-0-1 in league play and 11-1-2 overall.

Anna Rae Porcelli, Baley Edwards and Courtney Dwertman each tallied twice for the Bucs. Haley Shand also recorded her team-high 17th goal this spring.

Laney posted its eighth clean sheet of the season, outscoring opponents 54-14 through 14 matches.
