The Scene: From Sugar Plum Fairy to ‘Ladies’ Man’ Tim Meadows this weekend

dataHe’ll probably start off with a “very classy first line.”

And while he might not buy you a fish sandwich, the man behind the lisping and smooth comedic character Leon Phelps–actor and comedian Tim Meadows–is sure to provide the laughs when he performs in the Port City this weekend.

Meadows, longtime “Saturday Night Live” cast member and star of “The Ladies Man,” brings his stand-up to Dead Crow Comedy Room at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and again at 7 p.m. Sunday.

He got his start alongside Chris Farley with The Second City comedy troupe in Chicago before landing a coveted spot on “SNL” in 1991, staying on the show for 10 seasons. While there, he became known for his impersonations of stars like Oprah Winfrey and Tiger Woods and created original characters, Leon Phelps among them.

In addition to “The Ladies Man,” he has starred in “Mean Girls” with fellow “SNL” alum Tina Fey and “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.”

Advance tickets are sold out, but there is still a chance to get in the door each night. Dead Crow will be offering limited admission at the door. Click here to find out more.

There’s much more merriment to be found around town this weekend, from a live music showcase to lots of holiday-themed plays. You’ll find a sampling below in our weekly arts and entertainment roundup.
