Championships in singles and doubles in four different classifications are up for grabs this weekend as the North Carolina High School Athletic Association holds its annual boys tennis tournament at three different sites.

Six players from Wilmington open competition Friday at Millbrook Exchange Park in Raleigh. After capturing the east regional title, Marshal Waren (New Hanover) will face Nico Grewe (Raleigh Wakefield) in the round of 16, while Chase Horton (Hoggard) takes on Blake Carter (Raleigh Wakefield).
Two tandems from New Hanover also qualified for the doubles tournament. Taylor Gaines and Patrick Senior (New Hanover) face Lake Ihly and Robert Belonga (Raleigh Wakefield). Lucas McLatchy and Jack Cooper (New Hanover) take on Austin Cobb and Josiah Schainblatt (Raleigh Millbrook).

The Cape Fear Academy spring sports teams learned their seeds for the state playoffs this week, which are scheduled to get underway on Friday.
The CFA boys tennis team received a one-seed after winning conference and posting a 14-2 overall record. The Hurricanes girls soccer team earned a three-seed at 12-5-1 overall as the defending state champions. CFA won the Coastal Rivers Conference this season.
