Former Hoggard High School standouts Connor Barth and Casey Barth will hold their annual free kicking camp from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, July 13 at Scott Braswell Stadium on the school’s campus off Shipyard Boulevard.
Attendees will receive free T-shirts, instruction and kicking demonstrations by Connor Barth, Casey Barth and other local kickers. Campers will also receive instruction on how to warm up, train and prepare from local trainer Hudson Rose.
There will be kicking competitions for each age group, with a question and answer session at the end of the day. The camp is for all ages. For more info, email [email protected].
Connor Barth is just a few weeks away from heading to training camp for the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After missing the entire 2013-14 season due to an ACL injury, he is expected to take over as the starting place kicker for the Buccaneers heading into the season.
In five NFL season’s, Connor Barth has made more than 84 percent of his field goals with a career long 57-yard kick in 2012. He’s a perfect 26-for-26 from between 20-29 yards and 63-for-75 between 30-50 yards.
Casey Barth holds the UNC Tar Heel career field goal record with 62 after surpassing his brother on the all-time list. He set schools records for consecutive extra points and career field goals during his four seasons in Chapel Hill.
New Hanover basketball, Topsail football camps
With just a few weeks to go before the first official practice day for fall sports in high school athletics, a number of area schools will be holding youth clinics leading up to Aug. 1.
Rising fourth graders through ninth graders can take part in the New Hanover High School basketball camp at Brodgen Hall. The three-day clinic runs from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., July 28-30. The cost is $50 dollars. Parents can register July 28 from 8:30-9 a.m.
