Wilson Tobs 3 Wilmington Sharks 0
Christian Slazinik scattered five hits over eight innings of work and Chris Williams recorded the save in a 3-0 win for the Wilson Tobs at Buck Hardee Field on Thursday night.
Slazinik and Sharks’ starter Joe O’Donnell traded scoreless frames until Doug Teegarden singled to begin the third for Wilson. A hit by Taylor Nichols put runners on first and second with one out and Ben Schmucker brought in the first run of the game with an RBI ground out for his 21st run batted in of the summer.
The score would stay the same until the top of the sixth when Jake Armstrong put the Tobs up by two with one swing of the bat. Armstrong took a hanging breaking ball deep over the left field wall to make it 2-0.
Armstrong added an insurance run in the seventh and that’s all the support the Tobs’ pitching staff would need.
Williams came on in the bottom of the ninth inning after Slazinik allowed a leadoff double to Mike Montville. Williams hit Cam McRae on the elbow, and Sam Foy singled to right, but Schmucker unleashed a perfect throw, gunning Montville out at the plate. Williams then got a pop out to left and struck out the final batter of the game looking.
Sam Foy had two hits and O’Donnell gave up two runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 5.2 innings pitched.
The Tobs improve to 13-12 on the season, while the Sharks drop to 13-13. The Sharks head to Fayetteville Friday night to tango with the SwampDogs.
