The Score: New Orleans clinches Cape Fear Sevens, Post 10 celebrates championship run

The 39th Annual Cape Fear Rugby Sevens Tournament wrapped up Sunday at Ogden Park. The team from New Orleans took the men’s title with a 35-5 win over Trinidad and Tobago, while Northern Virginia claimed the women’s crown.

American Legion baseball

Before the first pitch in game two of the American Legion Area 2 Playoffs on Sunday, players and coaches on the Wilmington Post 10 team received championship rings during a ceremony celebrating their run to a state title in 2012.

Post 10 is one game away from clinching their opening round playoff series against Duplin.

In the nightcap, the defending state champions took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series with an 8-1 win. Game three between Post 10 and Duplin Post 127 is set for 7 p.m. Monday at Legion Stadium.

Jacksonville Post 265 also looks to even up their opening round series against Hampstead Post 167 on Monday. Post 167 has a 2-1 series lead after Jacksonville won 20-13 on Sunday in a game played at Topsail High School.

Game four is set for Monday at White Oak High School.

Coastal Plain League

The Coastal Plain League will hold its annual All-Star Game at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, Va.  Zach Stephens (Tennessee Tech), Alex Freedman (Winthrop) and Tyler Bolten (East Carolina University) will represent the Wilmington Sharks.

The Sharks are back in action at Buck Hardee Field on Tuesday, July 9, against Florence, S.C.
