Diamond Hawks knocked out of CAA tournament

HARRISONBURG, Va.-Pete Castoldi’s bases-loaded single to right gave fifth-seeded Northeastern a 5-4 walk-off victory over No. 1 UNCW in 11 innings at the CAA Baseball Championship on Friday night at Veterans Memorial Park.

Despite an impressive outing by Jordan Ramsey, UNCW was knocked out of the CAA Tournament on Friday night.

It was the third straight win in an elimination game for the Huskies (31-25).

Justin Livengood (1-2) suffered the loss for the Seahawks despite giving up only a run on two hits over the final 2.2 innings and fanning six.

In a tournament that had been dominated by hitting, UNCW received a tremendous effort from starting pitcher Jordan Ramsey. The sophomore right-hander limited the Huskies to two runs on four hits over seven innings. He struck out seven and walked only one, but didn’t get a decision despite leaving with a 4-2 lead.

The Seahawks finished 0-2 at the tournament and dropped to 37-21 with their second extra-inning setback of the season. UNCW will have to wait until Monday to see if they are awarded an at-large berth to the NCAA tournament.
