High School hoops: Trojans, Lady Scorps win; Topsail falls

West Brunswick 66     North Brunswick 53

West Brunswick picked up its second straight Waccamaw Conference win 66-53 Wednesday. The victory was Eric Davis’ first over the Scorpions in his three years as head coach of the Trojans. Gray Cheers had a team-high 18 points and Markel Jones scored 17 points in the win.

The Trojans are 2-0 in conference and play at West Bladen Friday, Jan. 4. North Brunswick (0-1 conference) entertains Whiteville on Friday.

The Cougars dropped their first game of the New Year 73-64 at home to West Bladen on Wednesday. South Brunswick (0-1 conference) travels to East Bladen on Friday, Jan. 4.

East Duplin 39    Topsail 35   OT

Trevor Savidge had 17 points in a losing effort for Topsail. The Pirates (4-6, 0-2) are back in action at home against South Lenoir on Friday, Jan 4.

North Brunswick 48   West Brunswick 38

The Lady Scorps turned a one-point halftime lead into a 10-point win on Wednesday in Shallotte. Nikayla Ramsey put in nine points and Tiffany Keaton was a basket shy of a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds.

North Brunswick picked up its first win in conference (1-0) and improved to 4-7 overall on the year. West Brunswick dropped to 0-3 in league play.

The Lady Trojans play at West Bladen on Friday, Jan. 4 while North Brunswick plays host to Whiteville (2-0 conference) in Leland.

East Duplin 26    Topsail 20

Topsail dropped its East Central Conference opener at East Duplin 26-20 on Wednesday. Both teams had seven field goals in the game, but Duplin shot 12-for-16 from the free throw line compared to Topsail’s 6-for-14 performance from the charity stripe.

Freshman Amberly Wolf had seven points and her classmate Keri White had five points. Brittany Woodward had 11 points for East Duplin in the win.

The Lady Pirates (5-5 overall, 0-2 conference) play at home against South Lenoir on Friday, Jan 4.
