Laney (8-1) defeated West Brunswick 4-0 Thursday, Sept. 20, in boys’ soccer.
The Bucs will host New Hanover in their first conference matchup Tuesday, Sept. 25.
“We played some very positive, attacking soccer really putting a premium on possessing the ball and creating chances. When we play at this level, it’s very fun to watch as a coach. It was a nice win against a quality opponent as we get prepared for conference play next week,” Coach Jamie Noble said.
Max Kraybill, Michael James, Carson Popper and Noe Banales scored goals for the Bucs, while Tyler Gioielli had two assists and Ashton Sutton and Pete Wildeboer each had one assist. Goalkeepers Stephen Lapp and Shane Powers were credited with Laney saves.
“We are at home next week for two big conference games—Tuesday against New Hanover and Thursday against Hoggard. Should be two very exciting and competitive matches and we are ready to go,” Noble said.
High school volleyball
Topsail (13-3, 8-0) defeated Swansboro on Thursday 3-0.
Trask fell to Midway on Thursday.
The JV squad lost 23-25 and 15-25. Taylor Rivenbugh had eight points, three aces and two assists. Trask’s JV squad is now 5-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
The varsity squad fell to midway 16-25, 25-17, 9-25, 25-21, 12-15. Neisha James had eight points and 12 kills. Rachel Wilson had eight kills. Anna Brodmerkel had 22 assists, and Becca Alvis had 12 assists. Kassidy Tyer and Chrishonda Brown combined for 20 kills.
Trask (5-7, 4-4) travels to Lakewood on Tuesday.
Cape Fear Community College
Cape Fear Community College (7-0, 5-0) women’s soccer team defeated Louisburg College on the road 2-0.
Lauren Smith had a goal with a Sierra Davis assist. Davis also had a goal with an assist from Amanda Fenton.
