WILMINGTON — A local nonprofit that focuses on area farmers is launching an autumn community supported agriculture box.
What is a CSA? A weekly box filled with locally grown produce that people can subscribe to receiving, featuring six to eight items. Feast Down East works with dozens of farmers in the area to ensure fresh fruits and vegetables reach farmers’ markets and underprivileged areas via its mobile markets.
From Sept. 19 through Nov. 21, 50 households can sign up for the CSA for $400 — money is split among farmers and FDE — and boxes can be picked up Thursdays. Pickup locations include:
- Historic Train Depot in Burgaw, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
- The Butchers Market on Oleander, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
- The Veggie Wagon on Masonboro, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. (limited spots available)
- Brunswick Beer & Cider in Leland, 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. (limited spots available)
The fall boxes will feature seasonal produce, including apples and pumpkins, alongside pecans and other value-added products. Add-ons are also allowed, including eggs, goat cheese, honey and meats.
To register and secure a spot, participants can sign up here. Detailed instructions on how to select a pick-up location and complete the purchase are available on the website.
