Comedian Reggie Watts to headline closing night of Cucalorus Film Festival

WILMINGTON — The Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College and the Cucalorus Film Foundation have announced world-renowned comedian, musician, and improviser Reggie Watts will close out the 31st annual Cucalorus Film Festival with a live performance at CFCC’s Wilson Center on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025 at 7 p.m.

Known for his one-of-a-kind blend of comedy and music, Watts uses only his voice, a keyboard, and a looping machine to create performances that are entirely improvised. He is best known as the former bandleader for “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and as a staple on IFC’s “Comedy Bang! Bang!”

Watts has also earned critical acclaim for his Netflix special “Spatial,” with The New York Times hailing him as “the most influential absurdist in comedy today.” His inventive style has made him a fan favorite at major festivals including Bonnaroo, SXSW, Bumbershoot, and Just for Laughs.

In addition to his live performance, Watts’ voice will be featured in filmmaker Michael Langan’s short film “Cosmic Cinnamon Roll,” screening earlier in the Cucalorus Film Festival.

“Reggie really embodies so much of what makes Cucalorus special — that sense of not knowing what’s coming next, maybe being unsure of what exactly is happening, but always thought-provoking and inspiring in unexpected ways,” Cucalorus Film Festival Director Dan Brawley said in a press release.

Individual tickets will be available online to Wilson Center Members on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. Tickets go on sale online and in person to the general public on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. The Wilson Center’s grand tier will be reserved for general admission seating exclusively for Pegasorus passholders. No ticket is required for Pegasorus passholders.
