WILMINGTON — The heat wave didn’t stop Weird Al Yankovic from engaging the crowd with plenty of costume changes and parodies galore at downtown’s Riverfront Park at Live Oak Bank Pavilion last Friday.

Tom Dorgan of MonFrog Media was there to capture the show and said Werid Al’s Bigger and Weirder Tour wasn’t only fun, but showed the performer and musician was one of the hardest working in the biz. The musician moved between instruments, danced and kicked, and sand through almost 30 songs.

Audience interaction was high throughout the show as well. Weird Al entered the concert from outside the venue, engaging fans along the way and singing his way to the stage.

“He also dedicated a song to the ladies and went back into the crowd to serenade random women during the night,” Dorgan said.

Puddles Pity Party opened for Weird Al. Michael Geier has been performing as his Pagliacci-inspired clown alter ego, often depressed and performing cover songs, such as Tom Waits’ “Come on Up to the House” and Celion Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On,” both performed at the concert. Puddles includes silent prop comedy, mime, and audience participation.

“He was almost as much fun as Al was,” Dorgan said. “At one point on the video screen, there was the message asking the audience: ‘Who wants to help the clown?’ Puddles brought a girl on stage and gave her a cardboard guitar. The girl played air guitar to ‘Crazy Train’ while Puddle sang and he sounded great.”

Below are the setlist and photos from both acts.
