Love, Lydia Bakery & Café now open in downtown Wilmington’s South Front District

The corner café is now open, after renovating a 100-year-old craftsman-style home on South 3rd Street in downtown Wilmington.

WILMINGTON — Love, Lydia Bakery & Café is now open in the growing South Front District.

1502 South 3rd Street houses a bakery and café, opening exactly 100 years after the craftsman-style house was built.

Owned by Lydia Clopton, PinPoint Restaurant’s head pastry chef, the bakery and café opened Wednesday after a year of planning.

With an added wraparound porch and original hardwoods, Clopton said the rezoned property has been renovated to fit the feel of the South Front District.

“Someone lived in this house two years ago,” Clopton said.

Clopton’s decade-deep expertise in baking has lent her creative recipes. Love, Lydia Bakery & Café currently has gluten-free pecan flour brownies, vegan zucchini bread, and other specialty treats available. Those specialty treats are subject to change.

A paper menu is displayed on the bakery’s wall. Though Clopton plans to roll out a couple permanent menus, the displayed options could be updated daily.

“The menu is designed to change,” Clopton said.

The bakery and café will soon host extended hours and items. Clopton said customers can look out for lunch and vegan-friendly options in the coming months.

“We’re hoping to add more vegan options moving forward,” she said.

Love, Lydia Bakery & Café is open Wednesday through Friday 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. The bakery and café will remain closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for the time being.
