CAROLINA BEACH — Grab-n-go biscuits, made from scratch, now available in Carolina Beach — is there anything left to say?
Annalee Berry has brought down-home, southern breakfast and sweets to the beach with The Southerly Biscuit & Pie.
From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., morning commuters can stop by The Southerly for a made-to-order homemade biscuit or handheld pie to add a little warmth to the routine.
Buttermilk, chive and gravy biscuits are made from scratch daily in The Southerly’s kitchen and can be used in their southern staple menu options.
Biscuits aren’t The Southerly’s only specialty; on Thanksgiving, the crew whipped up 71 specialty pies, only three days after opening its doors for business.
Berry credits the pie day success to the convenience of online ordering.
“I think it was just so convenient for people,” Berry said. “We had about four people back there that crank it out.”
Between head baker Amanda Benoit-Prill and co-owner chef Craig Love, the crew has combined family recipes to provide top-notch, “scratch virtues of the south.”
“It’s a version of a family recipe,” Love said.
Both Love and Berry worked together for several years at Carolina Beach’s Surf House Oyster Bar and Surf Camp.
In an effort to localize The Southerly’s offerings, many of materials available for sale or used to create the southern goods have been sourced from within state lines.
With sausage from Beartrack Farms, country ham from Johnston County Hams and catfish from Carolina Classics, The Southerly’s southern roots run deep.
After one month of operation, the grab-n-go biscuit spot already has a steady flow of regulars taking advantage of the homemade and convenient option.
At 1206 N. Lake Park Blvd, The Southerly Biscuit & Pie is open Wednesday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Southerly’s biscuit BLT with avocado and hot n’ hot catfish biscuit are already becoming regular’s go-to orders.
“We have eight biscuit sandwich choices and we’ll get some people that want to make up their own as they go too,” Berry said. “Add pimento cheese, add an egg, add some bacon on there, kind of change it up as they go.”
Aiming to serve residents traveling to and from Carolina Beach, Berry wanted to conveniently offer high-quality goods. “We are a specialty bakery concept, focusing on biscuits, pies and other confections,” Berry said.
Mindful of gluten allergies, Berry has gluten-free pie options and any biscuit sandwich can be made with gluten-free bread.
They’ve also got handheld pies, with cheery Cheerwine, banana chocolate caramel, and the boozy apple ready to go for those that want something a little sweet to kick their day off.
