
Marie “Smokey” Futrell, of Hampstead, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at home surrounded by her family and dear friends. She was 70.
Smokey was born on Dec. 7, 1944, in Goldsboro, daughter of the late, Beulah Mitchell Mozingo and John David Mozingo. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kerry Leigh Futrell and brother, Billy Strickland.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Joseph Futrell; daughter, Kelly Leigh Jacobson (Randy Jacobson), of Hampstead; grandchildren, Kerry Faith Kennedy, Casey Lane Jacobson (Cameron Spearman) and Cody Alan Jacobson, all of Hampstead; and siblings, Peggy Ivey, Richard Mozingo (Ginger), Frances Kestner, Buster Mozingo (Dee), Bobby Mozingo and Fay Gibbs (Harry).
Smokey was a seamstress with France Neckwear and then owned her own business, K & K Kurtains. She was a member of Hampstead Volunteer Fire Department, Hampstead Baptist Church and was a stay-at-home Granny.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary, Hampstead Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at Hampstead Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Joey Canady and Pastor Bobby Mowery. Interment will follow the service at Wilmington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or Hampstead Baptist Church.
