WILMINGTON — Carolyn Wetherington Orrell Haggins, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 78. Born on April 9, 1948, in Durham, North Carolina, Carolyn lived a life marked by her unwavering kindness and deep love for her family and friends.
Throughout her life, Carolyn was known for her sweet nature and the warmth she brought to those around her. Her gentle spirit and caring heart touched the lives of many, leaving behind cherished memories for all who knew her.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her devoted husband, William Pope Haggins, who passed in 2021, brother John Wetherington, sister Jane Green, and brother John Orrell, and her parents, Edward A. Orrell and Carrie Wetherington Orrell.
She is survived by her four loving sisters, Sylvia Stoudenmire, Shirley Orrell, Judy Barnett, and Bonnie Burris, brother Ray Wetherington, special niece Helen Haggins, special childhood friends, Bubba and Cathy Amerson; along with her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends, all of whom will miss her dearly and remember her fondly.
