WILMINGTON — James Russell Brown, Sr. 90, of Wilmington, NC, died Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Novant Healthcare New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Duplin County, NC, on January 3, 1936, the son of the late Russell Brown and Nellie Irene Padgett Brown. Also remembered is his loving wife of sixty-three years, Elizabeth Sue Avant Brown, two sisters, Betty Jean Williamson and Brenda Joyce Robins; and four brothers, Robert L. Brown, Donald Drew Brown, Morris Glen Brown, and Homer Brown, all of whom preceded him in death.
Surviving are three children, James R. Brown, Jr (Frances), Pamela Brown Caulk (Duke) and Jason William Brown; two grandchildren, Meagan Suzette Caulk and Cody Owen Caulk; and four great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Sterling, Owen and Elizabeth.
James was a veteran of the US Army. He enjoyed photography and was the official photographer for the local pageants for a number of years.
