WILMINGTON — Winford Theodore Grainger III, affectionately known as TJ, passed away on August 28, 2026, at the age of 41. Born on December 23, 1984, in Wilmington, North Carolina, TJ was a beloved son, father, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence touched the lives of so many.
TJ was his mother’s sunshine in every way. He had a big heart and loved deeply. His loyalty, generosity, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Growing up, TJ enjoyed the simple things that became treasured memories – boat rides on the river, spending time at the beach and riding motorcycles. He also had a true passion for cars and loved working on them. Whether he was turning a wrench, enjoying a ride, or spending time with the people he loved, TJ had a way of making memories that will be cherished forever.
TJ is survived by his loving parents, Winford Grainger Jr. and Mary Grainger of Leland, NC; his beloved son, William Grainger of Leland, NC; his sisters, Melody Autry (Brandon) of Leland, NC and Mindy Wier ( Brian) of Wilmington, NC; and his brother, Jeremy Grainger of Leland, NC. He also leaves behind many adored nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles who will carry his memory in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Grainger of Leland, NC.
TJ’s life was a gift to his family and to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His smile, his big heart, his love for his family, and the memories he created will never be forgotten.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Elah Baptist Church, 1527 Old Fayetteville Road, Leland, NC 28451. Inurnment to follow at King Memorial Garden, Bluff Road NE, Leland, NC.
