WILMINGTON — With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Cyrel “Robert” Millis Sr, who passed peacefully in his home in Wilmington on August 12,2026, at the age of 83.
Born in Folkstone, North Carolina, on September 16th, 1942, Robert lived a rich life grounded in service, hard work, softball, and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cyrel Dixon Millis and Katie Hobbs Millis, his beloved wife, Sandra Porter Millis, seven siblings, and one grandson.
He leaves behind an adoring family: his brother Alton Millis with his wife Gay, his children Cyrel Robert Millis Jr with his wife Annie, Laurie Millis Hill with her husband Ralph, Rex Paul Millis with his wife Heather, and Brian Keith Millis.
Along with his children he leaves behind fourteen grandchildren, Christopher Millis, Nicholas Millis, Adam Benton, Zachary Benton (deceased), Heidi Millis, Christophor Culpepper, Cassidy Culpepper, Elizabeth Worley, Kourtney Frazier, Jessica Millis, Rex Millis Jr., Ashley Abercrombie, Jessica Deville, Ethan Deville, and Anna Deville.
Robert also loved his sixteen great grandchildren Gavin Millis, Jameson Millis, Nora Records, Jolene Elliott, Marigold Elliott, Kara Worley, Levi Worley, Jennie Frazier, Jonah Frazier, Rylee Stroud, Caiden Millis, Reagan Millis, Astrid Millis, Ian Abercrombie, Kyla Abercrombie, and Juliana Abercrombie.
The family would also like to mention a few of his very close friends that felt like family, Gary and Cathy Horne, Jimmy and Peggy Rowell, Camme Beckerdite, and Helen Meadows.
Robert proudly served in the United States Air Force before beginning his 34 year career with Roadway Express.
After retiring, he valued the simple joys, softball, golf, a freshly cut lawn, but most of all he loved his family.
He could light a room with laughter, never hesitating to laugh at himself if it meant bringing joy to others.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in the memories he gave us- his love, his humor, his steady presence. He will be deeply missed.
