WILMINGTON — Francisco Blanco passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, at the age of 90, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Born on May 31, 1936, in Bogotá, Colombia, Francisco lived a life defined by purpose, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
As a young man, Francisco distinguished himself as a competitive cyclist, earning recognition as a talented and respected athlete. The discipline and determination he developed through cycling became hallmarks of his character throughout his life.
Francisco was a dedicated college professor of electronics engineering whose passion for teaching inspired countless students. He believed deeply in the power of education and took great pride in sharing his knowledge, encouraging others to think critically, grow with confidence, and pursue their own dreams.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Francisco was devoted to serving his community. He believed that helping those less fortunate was not simply an ideal, but a responsibility. Through direct involvement and acts of kindness, he quietly made a meaningful difference in the lives of many.
Above all else, Francisco was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Strong-willed, generous, and deeply caring, he always put his family first. His love, guidance, and steadfast support will remain a lasting gift to those who knew him best.
Francisco is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Cecilia Blanco; his daughters, Martha and Claudia; his son, George; his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Angelica, Jonathan, Mariana, Gavin, and Emilia; as well as his greatgrandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of love, integrity, and service.
Francisco lived by a simple but powerful philosophy: lead by example and always help those less fortunate than you. His life was a testament to perseverance, humility, and compassion, and the belief that one person can make a lasting impact through knowledge, kindness, and dedication to others. Though he will be deeply missed, his example will continue to inspire his family, friends, former
students, and all whose lives were enriched by his presence.
May his memory be a blessing, and may his legacy live on through his children and those who continue to lead with kindness, serve with humility, and love without reservation.
