WILMINGTON — Viet Mary Nguyen, born on March 5, 1950, in Vietnam, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, at the age of 76. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, cherished by all who knew her.
Mary was a longtime member of the Winnabow, NC community where she and her family resides. She was the devoted owner and operator of The China Doll Restaurant for many years, where she welcomed patrons with warmth and generosity. Her exceptional skills as a seamstress and garment alterations professional were admired by many. She proudly served a large clientele and worked for Hilda Godwin Ladies Dress Shop for many years, earning a reputation for her meticulous craftsmanship.
A faithful parishioner of St. Mary Basilica Catholic Church in Wilmington, Mary found strength and community within her faith, which guided her throughout her life.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Van Thang Nguyen and Thi Thao Nguyen; her beloved husband, John Eaches, who passed away on February 20, 2015; and her sibling, Loi Duc Nguyen.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her children Huong Nguyen (Thai), Dung Nguyen (Hai Au), Vinh Nguyen (Camchu), Linda Eaches (Brian), and Samantha Eaches Squires (Shannon). She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Brandon Nguyen, Bradley Nguyen, Dustin Nguyen, Katelyn Nguyen, Anna Nguyen, Hannah Nguyen, Lina Nguyen, Jonathan Lau, Madelyn Lau, Zan Lau, Hunter Squires, and Austin Squires. Her legacy also lives on through her nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends.
Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
