CASTLE HAYNE — Edward Lee Dahms, Jr., 61, passed away at home in Castle Hayne, NC, on Friday, June 19, 2026 after a cancer diagnosis ten months earlier.
He was born October 28, 1964 at St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan, Illinois and graduated from Zion Benton High School in 1982.
Throughout his life Ed excelled in many fields and accomplished many milestones. He became an over the road truck driver earning many safety awards. Driving over a million miles across the USA and Canada as a driver, recruiter, and senior road trainer with Melton Truck Lines.
Ed is survived by his wife of 36 years, Alanna Jean Nix Dahms of Castle Hayne, NC; son, Robert E. Dahms of Gibsonville, NC; mother, Myra E. Whitlow and her husband, Phillip of Beach Park, IL; brother, Michael Dahms (Stacey) of McHenry, IL; sister, Myra Stittgen (Craig) of Winthrop Harbor, IL; sister-in-law, Catherine Nix Goodnature (George) of Libertyville, IL; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Edward is preceded in death by his father, Edward Lee Dahms, Sr.; and his son, Andrew M. Dahms.
A private gathering will be held in North Carolina and a Celebration of Life in Illinois is planned for the fall.
